During the Annual Dereck Whittenburg Foundation Golf Invitational, Dereck hit his first ever hole-in-one to win a 2017 Ford Mustang sponsored by Capital Ford of Raleigh. Winning the car was a historic moment as it took place at Lonnie Poole Golf Course, home of North Carolina State University Golf, and more importantly, Dereck's alma mater where he also won a national championship in men's basketball in 1983.

As a testament to Dereck and Jacqueline's commitment to education, they donated all proceeds to the Dereck Whittenburg Foundation which helps students graduate college.
